Self Pay Rates

Starting February 2, 2026

Costs below will be implemented starting February 2, 2026.

Fees and rates can vary depending on time and complexity of visit and symptoms per medical coding guidelines. The cost ranges below are to help a patient plan their care if they are self-pay (charged to student account) for the most common visit types. Any student that has an active insurance card input into the system (and does not specifically request to self-pay) will be processed with their insurance company before any charges are sent to a student account (costs may be adjusted based on insurance contracts). These self-pay charges are typically less than 50% of the average visit in Whatcom County, as they are subsidized by the WWU Health Services Fee.

General Price Ranges

The Student Health Center supports many types of visits and will adjust charges based on individual appointment needs. Below are some of the general price ranges for a typical visit for students using a "self-pay" rate (or no insurance):

Type of Visit- General Price Range (Updated January 2026)

  • Office Visit: $42-$134
  • Cold and Flu symptoms call- No charge for call, tests or follow up may be needed.
  • Physical (Pre-participation): $75-$96
  • Flu Shot: $32 (typically covered by most in-network insurance companies)
  • Strep Test: $13
  • Mono Test: $7
  • Pregnancy Test: $10
  • Toenail removal: $113
  • Wound Repair: $70-$252 (Depending on severity of wound)

Most lab tests are collected at the Student Health Center, and sent to Quest Labs to process. Lab prices vary on type of labs needed. Quest labs would be billed directly from Quest.

If cost is a concern

While these costs help to ensure that the Student Health Center can continue to provide quality care to students, we also want to make sure that no student is left without healthcare due to cost. If costs are a burden, please contact Shcbilling@wwu.edu or review our Financial Hardship process to see if these could be right for you.
