Insurance Billing Update

Starting Winter Quarter 2026, the Student Health Center (SHC) will begin billing insurance for clinic services—including office visits and procedures. See the Health Insurance Billing Project section below for more details.

Health Insurance Billing

Starting in Winter 2026, the SHC will bill students’ health insurance plans for clinic services—including office visits and procedures. Students will have other payment options for services at the SHC besides insurance in case of no insurance, high deductible insurance/underinsured, financial hardship and privacy concerns.

Self-Pay

 Self-pay rates are adjusted rates to encourage timely payments. This can be helpful for students who are uninsured or would prefer to pay directly. Please note that if you choose self-pay, you will not be able to submit the receipt for insurance reimbursement.

Request an Itemized Receipt

For students that have out-of-network insurances, this option may help to cover some of the costs of a visit. Students are able to download an itemized receipt from their MyWesternHealth portal to review all charges. These receipts can be submitted to your insurance carrier for reimbursement on covered items.

Bridge Plan

The Bridge Plan will be a payment program designed to support students who are underinsured, have high-deductibles, or prefer a program with more confidentiality than their current insurance program. More information will be shared in Winter 2026.

Financial Hardship

The Financial Hardship Application will be available once insurance billing begins. This option will support students who are under certain income levels or Financial Aid criteria and have exhausted any insurance billing options available to them. The Financial Hardship process is meant to be short and simple for students, and for applications to be reviewed in a timely manner. This process is separate from Financial aid or scholarships.
