Bridge Program

This program will be available for sign- up starting February 2nd, 2026.

Bridge Program Overview

The Bridge Program is a discount program which reduces the cost of general medical visits at WWU Student Health Center. The Bridge Program is not a health insurance plan and does not provide any coverage for off-campus medical care.
All currently enrolled students are eligible to enroll in the Bridge Program. It is designed for students who wish to use WWU Student Health Center services and:

  • have high-deductible health plans with high out-of-pocket costs for medical care
  • have insurance plans that don’t list WWU Student Health Center as an in-network facility
  • do not have insurance and want to be seen at WWU Student Health Center at a discounted rate more than once per quarter

The Bridge Program enrollment fee and fees for services rendered at WWU Student Health Center clinics will be charged to your student account.

Frequently Asked Questions

All primary care office visit charges including mental health, physical health concerns, gender affirming care, and billable nurse, behavioral health (at the SHC) and athletic training visits qualify.

Procedures including injections, labs and associated fees, medications, equipment and other clinic services that are not office visits are NOT included in the Bridge Program and will be billed to your insurance company or can be billed directly to your student account; if you choose the latter (self-pay option), the charge(s) will be at the discounted self-pay rate(s).

The Bridge program is best suited for students who anticipate coming to the Student Health Center one or more times in a quarter, and:

  • would prefer to pay directly at a discounted rate for regular office visits.
  • have no insurance or have high-deductible insurance plans
  • are not on a Molina Apple Insurance Plan. State law requires that we cannot charge these plans to patients with this insurance.
  • may want additional confidentiality from insurance or insurance plan holders for certain healthcare services.

While this can apply to a variety of students, some examples of students that may want to use the Bridge program could be:

  • A student who has a high-deductible insurance plan who is working with a provider and our Athletic trainer on rehabilitating an injury.
  • A student who does not have insurance who would like to work with a provider for mental health visits and prescriptions.
  • A student that may not want certain visits going through their health insurance plan for confidentiality reasons.

Not all Student Health Center services are covered under the Bridge Program. Please make sure to review the types of visits that are covered before signing up.

No. If you are enrolled in the Bridge Program, you can choose to pay for some visits under the Bridge Program discounted rate and others with your insurance company.

Students who participate in the Bridge Program will automatically be charged out of the Bridge program unless they specify they want another billing option (such as charging to insurance), or if the services are outside of the Bridge program coverage.

You may enroll at any time during the quarter. The Bridge Program is effective beginning the date of enrollment. Once charged, Bridge Program enrollment fee cannot be reversed.

Students can enroll in-person at the WWU Student Health Center during regular business hours throughout the year.

Students can also call in (360-650-3400) or send a message to the Student Health Center staff through their MyWesternhealth to request the consent form for the Bridge Program.

Once the consent form is completed, a student is part of the Bridge program and will see the enrollment fee post to their student account within 2 business days.

No. This program will not be accepted for insurance reimbursement through insurance companies.

Yes!

No. Due to laws around Apple Health Insurance we are unable to charge these fees to students with Apple health.

When signing up for the Bridge program, you will be provided with two consent forms in your MyWesternHealth portal. The first one will allow you to sign up and enroll for the program. The second form will remain accessible in your account if you wish to unenroll.

To unenroll from the program, you will go into your MyWesternHealth portal and sign the consent form to Unenroll from the program.

Complete this step prior to the first day of classes for any quarter to avoid getting charged for the next quarter. Once the enrollment fee has been charged to your account, it cannot be removed.
